Katherine Ortega
Katherine Ortega received her BA from SDSU in Applied Design with an Emphasis in Furniture and an MFA from UW-Madison. Interested in learning upholstery in both traditional and modern techniques, Katherine spent a semester at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University located in High Wycombe, England.
Her work, which includes either upholstery or beading, uses these materials in a non-traditional and unexpected manner. The beading used is woven by hand and strung on the furniture, taking hundreds of hours to complete. Her art is inspired by fashion and the decorative arts.
Katherine resides in San Diego where she teaches design and works in her studio.
